About Us

The Bluegrass Lions Diabetes Project (BLDP) is funded by a Lions Clubs International Foundation Diabetes Grant. The goal of BLDP is to reduce the risk of diabetes for Kentuckians and to improve the lives of those that are diagnosed. We do this by conducting FREE A1C Diabetes Screening Events (SE) throughout Kentucky in which we allow participants to take the 7-question “At-Risk Assessment” developed by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Then we allow the participant to take an A1C diabetes screening which provides a score that reflects the average amount of blood sugar (glucose) for the last 3 months. Therefore, the results are not dependent on what the participant just had to eat or drink. We discuss the results and provide strategies to reduce A1C levels and thus to reduce the risk of the many serious consequences of diabetes: blindness, amputation, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke, etc.

Our Lions Goals

Educate ourselves and our communities about diabetes.

Increase access to diabetes care, medication and diagnostic equipment.

Develop environments that inspire and support healthy lifestyles.

Increase coordination and support of national policies and plans.
